Building your world (the Codex)

The Codex is where your world lives. This guide builds it up.

Categories and fields

Create a category (Characters, Places, Factions, …) and give it the typed fields you want: text, number, date, choice, reference, or URL. Every entity in that category then has those fields. A Reference field points at another entity — those links draw the Relationships graph and can be pushed to a Spreadsheet.

Aliases and auto-linking

Give an entity aliases (nicknames). Now both the real name and the nicknames auto-link in your prose and are found in search — so "Strider" links to Aragorn.

Keep it tidy

• Merge folds a duplicate entity into another, re-pointing every reference to it.
• Split carves a new entity off an existing one.
• State Over Time records how a field changes across the timeline — a title that becomes "King" by a certain year — which the continuity rules can check.
• Tags, Visibility/audiences, and an image gallery round out each entity.
