Footnotes

The Footnotes dock lists every footnote and endnote in the open document, in the order they appear.

What it shows

Each note's number, its text, and whether it is a footnote or an endnote. Numbering is by appearance and updates automatically as you add or move references.

Using it

• Insert a reference from Insert ▸ Footnote in the Editor; a superscript marker appears in the prose.
• Edit a note's text here, switch it between footnote and endnote, add, delete, or Jump to its reference.
• Footnotes export to Markdown, website, and EPUB as linked notes; formats that cannot show them (DOCX, standard-manuscript RTF) drop the markers cleanly.
